As a local, community based, non-profit internet service provider the Peace Region Internet Society strives to partner with local organizations to help them connect to the internet. Our latest partnership is with the Dawson Creek Art Gallery where our society set-up and is providing an internet hot spot for their location. This will provide visitors of the art gallery with fast, reliable internet that can augment their experiences while visiting the gallery. The Peace Region Internet Society believes that access to the internet is an enriching experiencing and we are always excited to help organizations connect to the greater world!

Dawson Creek, BC – The Government of Canada announced that $278,000 in funding will be made available to PRiS for providing 5.0 Mbps internet services to over 2000 homes throughout Northern BC’s Peace Region. This funding is made available as part of the Connecting Canadians program, a $305 million initiative to improve internet services for all rural Canadians.
PRiS is a not-for-profit society dedicated to providing rural high-speed internet services throughout the Peace Region. This funding will be used as part of a $1.1 million project to improve and expand the PRiS network in the areas near Chetwynd, Jackfish Lake, Dokie Siding, Fort St. John, Lakepoint, Grand Haven, Charlie Lake, Pineview, Mile 54, Old Fort, Two Rivers, Baldonnel, Cecil Lake, Clayhurst, Taylor, Hudson’s Hope, Arras, Sunset Prairie, Blueberry First Nations, Rose Prairie, Old Alaska Highway/Kiskatinaw, Swan Lake, Tomslake, Doe River and Dawson Creek.
As part of this project, PRiS intends to have 5.0 Mbps services available to nearly 1000 homes by the end of 2015, with another 1000 homes over the following two years. Installation of the new services will be available for both new and existing PRiS members starting in January 2016.
WiMax 3.5ghz/3.65ghz Services
Starting in September 2015, PRiS will begin deploying a fixed wireless solution on our existing towers to provide 650 rural homes in the Peace Region with new 5.0 Mbps internet services. This solution has superior speed, signal and range to any other comparable WiMax/LTE/4G product available on the market today, and has nearly ten times the capacity of our existing 2.4ghz wireless systems. With this solution we can quickly upgrade a large portion of our existing members to the improved 5.0 Mbps services.
New Microcell Deployments
Over the next three years, PRiS will provide 1350 homes with 5.0 Mbps internet services by deploying forty-two Microcells throughout the Peace Region. Microcells are ‘nodes’ which use utility poles equipped with high-speed wireless hardware to provide internet services to a relatively small area with 15 or more homes. Each Microcell has very high capacity and upgrade potential, giving PRiS the flexibility of providing services well into the future. Over the past two years, PRiS has installed twenty of these Microcells, which are now providing 400 members with 5.0 Mbps or greater internet services.
PRiS will be offering new high speed 3.65ghz WiMax services in select rural areas. This WiMax service will work in a licensed 3.65ghz band and offer superior speeds and distances.
We will be offering members new FWS-30/50/100 packages which includes 30-100 GB of data and speeds of 3-7.5Mbits. See our services page for more details on our plans.
Planned locations include:
- Bear Mountain (Arras to Dawson Creek)
- Peace (Taylor, Baldonnel, Two Rivers)
- North Pine Tower
- Mountainview (North West FSJ)
- Hudson’s Hope
- Briar Ridge
Project is scheduled to be completed end of December 2015.
